Dentists for Dropping Delta Dental

Dentists for Dropping Delta Dental
The Issue
Delta Dental is the largest dental plan system in the United States.
State of Michigan dentists are allowed to treat emergency dental patients only during the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, Delta Dental is collecting monthly dental insurance premiums from patients, month after month, throughout the pandemic. Delta Dental is collecting a significant revenue without having to pay out many (if any) claims per dentist. This imbalance of production output by the dentist and collection of premiums by Delta Dental is not fair to the small business owners who participate in Delta Dental - the dentists. Dentists are what keeps Delta Dental in business year after year!
It is proposed that each participating dentist receive payment in the amount of $10,000 from Delta Dental, not in the form of a loan or forward on future claims, but payment to ensure that we have a business to return to when we can do so safely.
Without significant financial help from Delta Dental during the COVID-19 Pandemic, it is proposed that dentists move to a fee for service model and immediately stop participation in Delta Dental in order to recoup their losses.
Without these funds, dentists are at risk for bankruptcy or a significant reduction in employees once we can resume operations, thereby reducing access to dental care, which in turn harms the citizens of our state.
