PETITION AKC TO REQUIRE DNA PROFILES TO BE PUT ON FILE BEFORE BREEDINGS OCCUR OR DENY REGS

The Issue

In order to protect dogs | owners and to have a mechanism to validate pedigree questions and prevent pedigree fraud, it is necessary for AKC to require DNA parentage profiles be submitted before any breedings take place or puppies can be registered. This is to insure the consumer of the correct pedigree and dog owners that no dog can be bred without their permission. This will eliminate the ability to submit another dog's DNA after the breeding takes place and gives the owner a mechanism to insure his lines are not compromised. After all, ins't this what owner's registration fees are supposed to cover? How else can the AKC say it is a registry of integrity with no mechanisms to back it up? Customers should not have to pay $500.00 if they question a pedigree.
