Bladerunner 2049 is a science fiction film directed by Denis Villeneuve which released in 2017 with a soundtrack composed by Hans Zimmer who famously composed the excellent Gladiator soundtrack. It is a direct sequel to the cyberpunk sci-fi classic Blade Runner which was directed by accomplished director Ridley Scott and released in 1982 with a classic score provided by the legendary Greek composer Ευάγγελος Οδυσσέας Παπαθανασίου aka Vangelis.

Many fans had eagerly awaited the release of the next installment and although they were thrilled to finally see a sequel to their favourite movie they were disappointed to learn that around four hours of film footage had been cut from the release version and that the soundtrack work done by Hans Zimmer didn't live up to their expectations.

Originally the critically-aclaimed Icelandic composer Jóhann Jòhannsson was hired to create the score. This was thrilling news for fans as only an artist of his calibre could possibly hope to match the beautiful, dystopian, haunting score Vangelis made for the original film.

Unfortunately for them a month prior to the film release date, the producers announced Jóhannsson and his team had been taken off the project, and that Hans Zimmer would be taking care of the soundtrack.

As we the fans feared, the vision created by Denis Villeneuve and Hans Zimmer is a decent homage to the original but sadly falls short in many aspects. There are many missing scenes in the Blade Runner 2049 release and the soundtrack work is often riddled with bombastic sound clichés and generic ambient soundscapes.p

We, the fans of Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049, respectfully and humbly demand the producers and backers of this film, Blade Runner 2049, to release it in it's unaltered, un-cut state, preferably with the original soundtrack as it was intended.

We as die hard Blade Runner fans deserve better!
