Australian Federal government to Regulate the fees Vets charge, Pet insurance to cover all pre existing injuries and for Pet care scheme introduced similar to Medicare.

The issue

We recently needed Veterinary care for Our Spoodle darling Moselle. She needed X ray's, I.V drip, her teeth cleaned and scaled. We went to one Vet who said there was no option other than to pay all the Veterinary costs up front, I asked for a payment plan and he refused. We then went to a 2nd Vet who said the same thing. They wanted to charge us approximately $900.00, extra money we did not have unfortunately.  We then decided to give the Lort Smith animal hospital a go, mind you they recieve no government funding whatsoever!! They rely on donations etc from the Public. They allowed us to go on a payment plan, yet the fee was not much cheaper. My concerns are there are so many Australians in this situation. As Veterinary care in unregulated in Australia they can charge any amount they wish. With Medicare type scheme introduced this would help so many Australians provide the care, Love and support for all Animals, Instead of "ECONOMIC EUTHANASIA". Many procedures cost into the thousands however, so many cannot Families cannot afford this type of money, In the end the Animal and there families suffer. This brings unnecessary anxiety and depression to those close. This can be ultimately be avoided and changed.

I am requesting the Government to support Families more who have Pets wherby Vet fees will be subsidised. There is already a fee Pet owners pay to register there Pets with the council, this money could be a contribution to the New scheme. The fees will then be reduced significantly. I am hoping an praying that something can be done in the near future.

The Federal government needs to regulate the Pet insurance industry. Its currently uncompetitive. 90% of the underwriters is owned by one Man who is turning Billions of dollars over.Insurance companies will always find clauses in paying out as we have had a personal experience with this.

Pleae support, share and write to your Local Federal MP and ask them to regulate the system.

Thanking you heaps,

Elena.

P.S when everyone unites more can be done.
