Demolish and Remove the Dangerous Derelict Building from our Bridgewater Community Park

Demolish and Remove the Dangerous Derelict Building from our Bridgewater Community Park
The Issue
At the heart of our beautiful Bridgewater community lays a park, formerly known as Island Park, recently renamed as Voortrekker Park, once a tranquil place where families would go for walks by the river. This has sadly become a place of fear and insecurity due to a burnt-down building that has since been occupied by street dwellers, littered and turned into a hub for unlawful activities like drug use, prostitution, defecation and crime. The ruins of the building has not only become an eyesore, but has increased crime in our area, drastically affecting the safety and serenity of our neighborhood.
Despite our communities numerous calls for help from the Ward Councilor and The City of Cape Town, our request to have this problem building removed has been ignored. We cannot stand by while our community suffers. It's our responsibility to reclaim our park and restore its original charm. We yearn for the time when we could stroll through the park without a second thought, when the echoing laughter of our children rejoicing in their play filled the air, and not the harsh realities of the street life.
The quickest and most effective solution is to demolish and remove the ruinous building. This immediate action is necessary for the well-being of the Bridgewater community, in order to reclaim our park, reduce crime and improve community morale.
The residents of Bridgewater would like a safer, cleaner, and more peaceful community environment. Let's return Voortrekker Park (formerly Island Park) to its rightful owners – the families of Bridgewater and the surrounding communities that love this park.
Sign this petition to call for the prompt demolition and removal of the problem building from our Community.
