Animals under the law in South Africa have as much rights as an inanimate object - like a chair. In fact that is exactly how they are classed - as property. Something anyone can own without a license and then do whatever the like to / with. The constitution HAS to change and follow suit of some of the more progressive countries around the world - and there are more and more all the time that are recognising that animals are sentient beings just like us and deserve rights under the law. This way there is more room for proper protection and legal recourse which currently barely exists at all. We are sending this petition to the Democratic Alliance which is the main opposition party in South Africa and currently runs many of the provincial municipalities. We are asking their representatives in parliament to fight this issues until they succeed! South Africa has a huge population of pet owners and animals lovers and we want our beloved pets to be acknowledged by our constitution. Thanks you for you support!
