We the people of Deming, New Mexico are appalled at the unbelievably low wages our firefighters and EMT's are making. They provide a dual service and get paid for one. This matter has put our lives and property at risk by making the response time longer. Also, the classification of the department will change causing our homeowners insurance rates to rise. We ask that you rectify this matter immediately by bringing them back and a pay raise that they could support a family on that is comparable with other cities and state that are providing dual services. Our local FIRE/EMS starting wage is $12/hr. Some of their members have been there for over 10yrs and are still making just above $12/hr. These men/woman provide dual services within the department. They work long 48 hour shifts and dedicate themselves to our community.  Please stand up for these heroes and get them the pay they deserve.
