Demand X to Implement Mutual Blocking to Prevent Online Bullying

The Issue

I am a survivor of online bullying, an experience that left me physically ill and almost cost me my life. The platform in question is X (formerly known as Twitter), where even after blocking a user, they can still view your posts while you remain oblivious to their activities. This loophole allowed for the destruction of my reputation and caused immense distress, forcing me to abandon my account and start anew.

This isn't just about me; several friends have also fallen victim to this form of harassment. We reported the incidents to X's administration but received no assistance or resolution. This lack of action from X not only enables bullies but also leaves victims feeling helpless.

Online bullying is a global issue with severe consequences. According to the Cyberbullying Research Center, about 37% of young people between the ages of 12-17 have been bullied online, while 30% admit having done it themselves (Hinduja & Patchin, 2020). It's time for platforms like X to take responsibility for their role in this crisis.

We demand that X revise its blocking policy so that it becomes mutual - when one user blocks another, neither should be able to view each other's posts. By doing so, we can create safer spaces online where everyone can express themselves freely without fear.

Please sign this petition if you believe in creating a safer digital environment free from bullying and harassment on platform X.
