WOW! Where do I begin?
On Thursday, August 17th, 2023, we received the report from the third party, impartial attorney, hired by the Wausau School Board, who was reinvestigating the allegations from my nephew. My heart dropped, scared of the unknown. Once I started to read her report, my heart dropped again, but this time, it was because I couldn't believe the amount of information she found and that she was actually impartial! She was able to substantiate almost all the allegations (in whole or part). It was all good news!
Perkins was found to be in violation of Policy 2266 – NonDiscrimination on the Basis of Sex in Education Programs or Activities, in addition to, Policy 5517 - Student Anti-Harassment.
This is what we've been waiting for! We've been waiting for vindication and it all came down to this report. Not only did she find that Perkins was in violation, Attorney Leffler also found the the District failed in steps to support the student’s safe return to school, and responded to the family's complaint in a manner that was "concerning," "irregular, " showed a "lack of urgency," lacked communication, and "did not comply with best practice."
To top it all off, we received word that same night that Deb Foster was no longer going to be the Principal at Wausau East High School!
WOWZA. I couldn't even wrap my head around all the news. All I can say is GOD IS GOOD. He was there with us every step of our journey.
What is done in the dark will finally be revealed in the light. Thank you to all of our supporters who have shared in our pain. Now, you can share in some of our joy!
The journey doesn't end here. We are still waiting for the School Board to comment on the report and their next steps. We still need to hold Administration accountable for their actions/determination. We still need District wide changes!! We can not allow another family to go through what we had to journey through.
