Demand Washington State University End Its Animal-Killing Surgery Labs for Good
The Issue
There are two things Washington State University needs to do right now. It has done neither.
First: Free the eight saved horses.
After more than 36,000 messages from supporters and veterinarians, WSU cancelled its planned horse-killing laboratory — sparing eight healthy horses from being cut open and killed as part of a veterinary surgery class. That was a win. But those eight horses are still sitting at WSU. They have not been released to sanctuary. They are still waiting.
Second: End the goat-killing laboratory.
Cancelling the horse lab was only half the battle. An identical laboratory is still operating at WSU — except the animals inside are goats. Sixty goats are being sliced open in invasive practice surgeries and then killed. The public pressure that saved the horses has not yet reached the goats.
Both of these are happening right now at the same university. Both are unnecessary. Modern veterinary schools use humane, animal-free teaching methods that better prepare students for real clinical practice. PETA scientists presented these alternatives directly to WSU's Board of Regents. The university has every reason to act and no good reason not to.
The public moved WSU once. It needs to move it again — all the way this time.
Sign this petition to demand WSU release the eight horses to sanctuary and shut down the goat-killing laboratory immediately.
