Demand Warwickshire County Council Apologize for Inflammatory Remarks on SEN Policy

The Issue

I am a parent of an 11-year-old girl who is differently abled. My daughter has a rare condition called Agenesis of The Corpus Callosum, Autism, Colpocephaly, congenital heart problems and physical disabilities. Despite her educational level being at EYS, mainstream school failed her and we had to fight for her EHCP. Now she can’t be placed in a school here in Warwickshire.

On the 25th January 2024, Warwickshire County Council held a Children and Young People's Overview and Scrutiny Meeting where they presented inflammatory and inaccurate comments regarding SEN policy. They suggested that parents were responsible for the ‘bad behaviour’ of their children rather than it being a question of special or additional needs.

This viewpoint not only undermines the struggles faced by families with special needs children but also highlights the lack of understanding within our local authorities about these conditions. It's clear that local politicians have made it clear they don’t care about failing children with SEN.

We demand an apology from Warwickshire County Council for these remarks as well as retraction of these harmful statements. We also demand the immediate removal of the three counsellors responsible from their roles in office. We also call on them to make necessary changes to their approach towards SEN policies so that no child is left behind due to their special or additional needs.

Please sign this petition if you believe in equal opportunities for all children regardless of their abilities or conditions!
