Demand urgent return of wounded AZOV POWs held in Russian prisons.
The Issue
Since the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, countless soldiers have shown immense bravery, defending their homeland against insurmountable odds. Yet, the war has left many of these warriors vulnerable, especially those from the Azov Brigade. As we speak, more than 600 Azov defenders are languishing in Russian captivity, isolated from official prisoner exchange programs, and subjected to brutal conditions. An alarming 20 of these heroes are reported to be in critical condition, suffering from severe starvation and documented cases of systematic torture.
The inhumane treatment of these prisoners must not be overlooked or allowed to persist. Russia has increasingly employed its legal system as a tool of war, weaponizing it to sentence 270 of these fighters to decades in penal colonies on completely fabricated charges of 'terrorism.' This is not only a gross injustice but a dire humanitarian crisis. Yet, the international response has been eerily silent.
We are demanding urgent international intervention to secure the release and safe return of these suffering prisoners of war. Governments, international organizations, and human rights bodies must pressure Russia to comply with international humanitarian law and facilitate the immediate release of these POWs. These men, who selflessly defended their country and its ideals, deserve swift and decisive action from the global community.
The line between justice and tyranny must not continue to blur unchecked. Each day that passes without serious international action risks the lives of these soldiers and sets a dangerous precedent for the treatment of prisoners of war worldwide. The narrative of their suffering must not be silenced nor their sacrifices forgotten.
I urge everyone who believes in justice, human rights, and peace to join this call. Sign this petition to demand action for the return of the Azov defenders and an end to the unlawful brutality they face. We must act now before more lives are irreparably shattered. Your signature can make the world echo with a demand for justice and help bring these heroes home.
You can also call the Congressional switchboard 202-224 -3121 and ask to talk to your Senator or Representative. or ask to speak to any of the Ukrainian Caucus Chairs Joe Wilson, Marcy Kaptur, Brian Fitzpatrick, and Mike Quigley. If you are not in their state represented by them, let them know you are a "concerned US Citizen" with a serious International Humanitarian issue to discuss.
