We, the residents of Walvis Bay, are deeply frustrated by the municipality’s ongoing failure to provide basic services, manage waste responsibly, and uphold accountability. The neglect of our town has created hazardous living conditions, threatening our health, safety, and quality of life. We demand immediate action to address the following critical issues:

Every day as I drive out of Walvis Bay, I witness the heartbreaking sight of grown men and women resorting to relieving themselves by the roadside. This daily occurrence is not just an affront to human dignity but also a stark reminder of the systematic neglect by the Walvis Bay Municipality in providing the most basic of human necessities.

Lack of Basic Toilet Facilities in Townships: Many township residents lack access to adequate sanitation, forcing some to resort to open defecation in the streets. This is an unacceptable violation of human dignity and a public health crisis.

Deplorable Road Conditions: Potholes and severely damaged roads make driving hazardous, causing vehicle damage, tyre blowouts, and safety risks for residents. The municipality’s neglect has rendered many roads nearly impassable.

Neglected Street Cleaning and Rubbish Removal: Streets remain filthy due to inconsistent or nonexistent cleaning services. Rubbish removal is unreliable, leaving piles of waste that pose health hazards and degrade our environment.

Burning Rubbish at the Dump: The municipality’s practice of burning rubbish at the dump produces toxic plumes of smoke that pollute the air, harm residents’ health, and create unbearable living conditions in surrounding areas.

No Accountability or Transparency: The municipality operates with a lack of transparency, failing to communicate plans, budgets, or progress on service delivery. Residents deserve clear answers and responsible leadership.

These failures reflect a profound disregard for the well-being of Walvis Bay’s residents. We, the undersigned, demand that the Walvis Bay Municipality take immediate action to:

• Restore regular street cleaning and reliable rubbish removal.  
• Stop burning rubbish at the dump and implement safe, environmentally friendly waste management practices.
• Provide adequate toilet facilities in townships to ensure dignity and sanitation.
• Urgently repair roads to safe, drivable conditions.
• Increase transparency by publicly sharing plans, budgets, and timelines for addressing these issues.

We call for accountability and a commitment to restoring Walvis Bay as a clean, safe, and healthy town. Failure to act will only deepen the community’s distrust and suffering. Act now to prioritize the needs of your residents.
