Demand Urgent Climate Action from the UN
Demand Urgent Climate Action from the UN
El problema
In less than three years, the Climate Clock will reach zero. Every day, we move closer to a point of no return, where the damage caused by climate change could become irreversible. This is an urgent call to UN member states to take immediate and effective action.
We demand that fossil fuel subsidies be phased out within a maximum of five years and that these resources be redirected toward renewable energy and protecting the most vulnerable people from extreme heat.
More than 50 countries have already raised their voices to call for an end to the era of coal, oil, and gas. Yet some governments continue to block binding measures, preventing the necessary change from happening. Countries' commitments to tackling climate change must become real action. We can no longer allow short-term interests to take priority over the wellbeing of our planet and its people.
The United Nations has a crucial role to play in this transformation. Redirecting financial resources currently allocated to fossil fuels could significantly accelerate the development and adoption of clean, sustainable energy. This would not only help mitigate the effects of climate change, but could also support energy systems that are more affordable, secure, and accessible.
Protecting the most vulnerable is equally essential. Extreme heat is becoming more frequent and intense, disproportionately affecting low-income communities and older people. Investing in heat protection and adapting our cities and rural areas to a changing climate is essential to protecting lives.
We call on the United Nations and its member states to develop a concrete plan to ensure that these actions are implemented within five years. It is time for world leaders to take responsibility and act for the future of our planet and generations to come.
