For the first time in years, OSHA has cited UPS for “failing to protect employees working in excessive heat” after a driver in Riviera Beach, Florida was hospitalized for heat illness. The company will face the maximum penalty allowed by law for a serious violation: $13,260

This is BIG news. Despite the fact that more than 100 employees have been hospitalized for heat illness in the last 5 years, OSHA hasn’t bothered to cite them. Thanks to this petition and the media coverage it’s triggered, OSHA is now paying attention.

Sure, $13,260 is a small price for a massive multi-billion dollar company like UPS. But the news coverage of the fine exposes UPS for what they are: a greedy corporation that puts profits over the lives and well-being of their employees.

Let me give you a recap of what else has happened, just in the last 6 weeks:

  • Because of this petition, NBC has now done THREE investigative stories exposing UPS, leading to segments on NBC Nightly and the Today Show. UPS was so intimidated by the coverage, they sent CEO David Abney on Fox News Business to respond to the report.
  • Thanks to your support, we have a massive billboard truck driving around UPS headquarters in Atlanta right now with the message “SHAME ON UPS.” Execs can’t get to work without being reminded of their inaction.
  • We sent personal cooling fans to 20 UPS execs and members of the board, telling them we’re not a fan of the way they treat their drivers.
  • A UPS store in Georgia closed for several days because of temps reaching 100 degrees, saying “these conditions do not make it safe for the customers or employees.” The photo of the closed sign went viral on social media, leaving customers wondering why UPS doesn’t care to protect drivers, too.
  • Almost 850,000 people (!!!) have made your voices heard by signing this petition.

UPS CANNOT IGNORE US. Because of what you’ve done, they are feeling the pressure every minute of every day. Now is the moment to win this – for all of the hardworking men and women who are risking their lives just to deliver our packages.

Can you help us get to one million signatures? If you share this petition with just one person today, we can do it.

We are taking on a multi-billion dollar corporation, and I know we can win.
