Demand UnitedHealthcare Approve Acute Rehabilitation for Salima Shah
The Issue
Salima Shah, should be celebrating her 78th birthday at home. Instead, she's trapped in a hospital bed, fighting to regain her strength and independence after a devastating fall. This fall has left her unable to walk, needing help with basic tasks, and enduring constant pain. While she bravely battles back, her insurance company, UnitedHealthcare, is blocking her path to recovery.
Despite the pleas of her doctors, nurses, and therapists, UnitedHealthcare is denying Salima access to the acute rehabilitation she desperately needs at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, a facility that has already accepted her. They are prioritizing maximizing profits over providing her with crucial care, citing a resolved kidney infection as the primary reason for denial and completely ignoring the debilitating effects of her fall and her severe knee injuries.
Salima's MRI reveals extensive damage to her right knee, including a torn ACL, a bilateral meniscus tear, and severe osteoarthritis. She requires intensive therapy to regain her mobility and independence, a level of care that can only be provided in an acute rehabilitation setting.
Every day that UnitedHealthcare delays her rehabilitation increases her risk of complications, further decline, and a diminished quality of life. Her family and her entire medical team are fighting for her, but they are up against a powerful corporation putting profits before patients.
We need your help to stand up for Salima! Sign this petition to demand that UnitedHealthcare CEO, Brian Thompson and Krista Nelson, approve the acute rehabilitation she urgently needs at Spaulding Rehabilitation Charlestown Hospital. Let's show them that we will not tolerate insurance companies prioritizing profits over the well-being of vulnerable patients. We must ensure that Salima, and others in her predicament, have access to the care that they need and deserve. We urge you, to lend your support and sign this petition, and together, let us fight for Salima's right to access the care she needs, and in the larger scheme—everyone's right to accessible healthcare.
Every signature counts. Let's bring Salima home!
