Demand UN Refugee Agency's Support for a Sudanese Refugee Separated from Family in Libya

The Issue

Mohamed, a friend of my father - an individual with dreams, hopes, and a right to safety - is currently displaced from his homeland. Caught between the fighting of two militias guilty of war crimes, the Rapid Support Forces destroyed his home, displacing both him and his family. From his family, he lost his aunt, his father’s sister, two of his sisters, two of his nephews, one of them a week old, and their mother (الله يرحمهم).

Sudan is in shambles, with about 15 million people both externally and internally displaced and a death toll of an estimated 150,000 people.

Today, he works in Libya making less than $250 a month from labor jobs, half of which he sends to his family displaced in other countries. He is the sole provider for his mother and siblings, and has no resources in Libya to support them.

Mohamed is registered with the UN Refugee Agency, but has received no support to relocate to a country with better work opportunities. The war in Sudan has overwhelmed the Libyan branch of the UN Refugee Agency, with millions of Sudanese civilians externally displaced.

We demand that the Refugee Agency, with its mandate to ensure the well-being and safety of refugees, step in to assist these displaced individuals, and particularly our friend who is in dire need.

Let's voice our concern loudly. It's high time we envision a humane world responsive to human rights violations. Sign this petition to urge the UN refugee agency to shine its light on the plight of our friend and the millions of others like him.
