The Issue

UC Davis employs Beth Bourne, a Moms for Liberty chair, and staunch raving mad anti-trans advocate. Beth has terrorized her community, her faculty, and even her own family for years. Her antics have reached the criminal level, the national spotlight and a whole new low in that she has used the first amendment and riling up the far right to keep UC Davis too afraid to reprimand her in fear of retaliation. Her recent bigotry has sparked national uproar, the nation and her community have called for her firing. UC Davis released a statement saying she will bot be fired and her hate speech is protected.

Beth Bourne's own child came out as non-binary and felt so threatened and unloved by their own mother that they moved away from home and cut all contact. Beth treats her community as her own personal battleground. She doesn't care about rules of engagement or casualties, and neither does UC Davis as even when faced with a national media firestorm they have released a statement doubling down and defending Bourne's rights to say and do whatever she pleases, even though those same actions specifically violate the universities own social media policies, code of conduct, and pledge for diversity and inclusion.

Beth Bourne recently made the news for harassing and verbally assaulting drag queens in Hawaii. She was removed from that situation by police. Beth Bourne was served a restraining order a year ago for publishing the private information of Davis Unified School District teachers to the public because they were trans allies. Beth Bourne regularly posts pictures of students and staff of various Davis educational institutes without their consent and posts harassing, threatening content about them on twitter that doxxes them, endangers their safety and threatens their well being. Beth was seen dragging her dog along hot pavement, burning its feet, and yelling at passerby that she didn't care, all so she could harass some folks painting a rainbow crosswalk.

Beth Bourne mentions her employer, UC Davis, by name on her twitter where she actively harasses students and staff, but also disparages the university for having a large trans population. She taunts the university specifically saying she will do what she wants because of free speech. Her pinned post on twitter says UC Davis is "set up so vulnerable kids fall into the trans pipeline." She regularly tags UC Davis and Davis Unified School District in posts full of hate, posts directly attacking these educational institutions and their students on the basis of their protected status. She is violating school policies and committing hate crimes and UC Davis does nothing, they continue to employ her, and even make excuses for her. How can anyone believe that campus is safe? UC Davis is becoming a safe harbor for bigotry and hatred and violence and inviting dangerous people and behavior.

Beth's community is well aware of her. They despise her, they live in fear and don't want her around their children and yet UC Davis stands up for this woman and defends her right to free speech, even though she violates their own policies. She could easily be terminated but UC Davis is too afraid. We have to make a stand. This is a dangerous precedent to send that it is ok to spread hate and encourage violence under the guise of free speech. The first amendment does not free one of consequence, and we must bring this to light. This is an important teaching moment, a time for UC Davis, and by extension society, educational bodies as a whole, and communities who are supposed to protect children to be on the right side of history and the law and their own policies.

It is time to hold Beth Bourne and more importantly UC Davis accountable. Allowing hatred to thrive on their campus means they are complicit and do not care about protecting their students or the fact that they are allowing their staff to perpetrate hate crimes. Her latest twitter post is taunting the university to act, saying they can't and won't do anything. Please, let's make UC Davis do the right thing.
