Demand Uber stand up for human rights and free speech, withdraw from Saudi Arabia

Demand Uber stand up for human rights and free speech, withdraw from Saudi Arabia
The Issue
After the disappearance and suspected murder of an outspoken Saudi Arabian exile and journalist, Jamal Khashoggi, Uber withdrew from a global conference happening later this month in Riyadh.
Khashoggi went missing at the Saudi Arabian consulate in Turkey. He went there to obtain documents for his upcoming marriage and hasn’t been seen since. Turkish officials say he was killed and dismembered by Saudi assassins. It’s very likely the Saudi Arabian government had him disappeared, or worse.
Kidnapping and murdering a journalist at your embassy is not how you win global business. Call on Uber to put their money where their mouth is - withdraw Uber from Saudi Arabia.
For Uber to stand up for basic human rights and free speech, they need to do more than withdraw from a global conference. They need to send a clear message to the Saudi government that they won’t stand for abuses in human rights, and won’t profit off a government who jails and dismembers its own people.
American companies alone invested $55 billion in Saudi Arabia last year. Uber is likely to generate up to $90 billion in Saudi Arabia by 2030, thanks to expanding their presence in the country. There is no price on human rights. Tell Uber not to turn a blind eye. Condoning human rights abuses by continuing operations is not something that can be overlooked. Tell Uber that business cannot continue as usual.
