The Issue

Want to buy a hot dog, a T-shirt, or even a ticket at your favorite stadium? Better hope you brought a credit card—or a smartphone.

Across the country, more and more stadiums and arenas are banning cash, leaving out fans who don’t have cards, bank accounts, or mobile payment apps. This includes:

Yankee Stadium
SoFi Stadium
Mercedes-Benz Stadium
Allegiant Stadium
Chase Center
Hard Rock Stadium
U.S. Bank Stadium
Crypto.com Arena
Lumen Field
…and many more.

Some of these venues are publicly funded. Some even receive taxpayer subsidies. But all of them are shutting out millions of Americans who still rely on cash—especially seniors, low-income families, and younger fans without access to credit or digital wallets.

We call on the U.S. Congress, state lawmakers, and major league sports teams to require all publicly accessible stadiums and arenas to accept U.S. cash for tickets, food, and in-person purchases.

No one should be excluded from a game or charged extra because of how they pay.

This isn’t just about sports—it’s about access.

Roughly 14% of Americans use cash for nearly all purchases, and the number is higher among unbanked households. When stadiums go fully cashless, they’re not modernizing—they’re discriminating.

If businesses want to offer digital options, great. But fans deserve the freedom and choice to use legal U.S. currency—without being forced into a card-only system.

Cash is still king. It’s still legal tender. And in a place that’s supposed to be for everyone, it should still be accepted.

Sign to demand that stadiums, arenas, and lawmakers protect payment choice—and stop the cash bans now.
