Demand Turkish Airlines to Implement Nut-Free Flights for Allergy Sufferers

The Issue

Every year, millions of people worldwide suffer from nut allergies, with reactions ranging from mild irritation to severe anaphylaxis. For these individuals, even airborne exposure can trigger a reaction. Turkish Airlines currently serves nuts on its flights. The air conditioning in the plane circulates these particles and  puts people with nut allergies at considerable risk which can result in a life threatening emergency. The airline does not make any announcements about potential allergen exposure if there is a passenger onboard with such allergies. They do not request for passengers to not eat nuts onboard and they refuse to avoid nuts in catering as such if anyone with allergies is onboard. This puts passengers with nut allergies at great risk every time they fly.

They point blank refused my niece to board the plane because she had a nut allergy which is airborne. They refused to make any announcements on board that a passenger with nut allergy was on board and to refrain from eating nuts on board and they said that they cannot stop people from eating nuts. There is a risk with all airlines and we understand this but the other airlines took the necessary steps to raise awareness in order to prevent someone losing their life. Turkish airlines shows no compassion or respect to anyone with nut allergies and refuses to take the necessary steps to make such a passenger feel safe.

They have hit headlines in the past for leaving patients stranded or having them removed from flight because of allergy issues and making them sign a document to take no responsibility. This is not acceptable and like other airlines they should take measures to protect all passengers onboard.

We are calling on Turkish Airlines to prioritize the health and safety of all passengers by eliminating nuts from their in-flight service and making necessary announcements about potential allergen exposure. This change would align them with other airlines that have already made this shift in response to the growing public health concern.

Around 2 million people are thought to live with a food allergy in the U.K. According to Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE), up to 32 million Americans have food allergies, including 5.6 million children under age 18 - that's one in every 13 children or roughly two in every classroom.  Nearly 100,000 new cases annually in  the US and the U.K. With such a high prevalence rate, it is crucial for airlines like Turkish Airlines to take proactive measures against potential allergen exposures.

By signing this petition, you are urging Turkish Airlines to implement nut-free flights and make necessary announcements regarding allergens onboard their aircrafts - because everyone deserves a safe journey free from the threat of an allergic reaction.
