Demand Trump's Resignation from the JFK Center Board of Directors
The Issue
As a passionate supporter of the arts in America, I am deeply concerned about the negative impact the chairmanship of Donald J. Trump at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts might have. I believe that the arts play an essential role in shaping societies as they foster empathy and compassion. However, having an aspiring autocrat who is the personification of narcissism and cruelty leading an institution dedicated to unity and shared experiences is untenable.
Moreover, Mr. Trump's previous actions while in power, which include proposing significant funding cuts for the National Endowment for the Arts, have already demonstrated a lack of commitment and understanding of the arts’ integral role in society. This calls into question his appropriateness as a leader in this field (The Washington Post, 2020).
We cannot afford to compromise the arts, a key pillar of our society and democracy. Therefore, I urge you to join me in boycotting the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts or any performances associated with it, until such time as Donald J. Trump resigns or is removed from his position as chairman of the board. Your signature will send a clear message that the leadership of such critical institutions must reflect the values of empathy, compassion, and unity that art promotes. Please sign and share this petition to ensure our arts sector is led by individuals who truly value its crucial role in our society.
