Demand Trump Administration to Investigate the Arrest and Death of Gonzalo Lira in Ukraine
The Issue
(We The People) As Americans from various backgrounds we are deeply affected by the arrest, imprisonment, and resulting death of our fellow American Gonzalo Lira (A father of two young children, former journalist and supporter of peace) in Ukraine. This incident has sparked distress and unrest within our community, and are requesting for the Trump Administration to strengthen our confidence in their commitment to protect all American citizens, regardless of their ethnic backgrounds when in harms way abroad.
Gonzalo Lira, a Hispanic-American, was in Ukraine to be with his love ones. He wanted to de-escalate the war between Ukraine and Russia to protect the lives of his family and those of Ukrainians and Russians alike.
He was unjustly arrested for exercising his freedom of speech in what they claim a democratic society and subsequently died in imprisonment under obscure circumstances. We believe that a thorough and transparent investigation by the United States government into Gonzalo's arrest and death is not only imperative for justice but also crucial in strengthening the trust of the minority community in the administration.
The Trump Administration has a responsibility to ensure the safety and rights of all U.S. citizens, at home and abroad. A formal investigation into Gonzalo's case will send a strong message to the global community that America stands by its citizens, irrespective of where they are and that we deserve to have our human rights protected.
We implore the Trump Administration to commence a formal investigation into the unjust arrest, imprisonment, and death of Gonzalo Lira in Ukraine. Let justice be served, and let the minority community solidify our faith in the administration's commitment towards the welfare of all its citizens, no matter their ethnicity or where they might be in the world.
Please, support our call for justice. Sign this petition to demand a formal investigation into Gonzalo Lira's case.
