The Issue

As someone significantly affected by the increasing national debt, it is personally alarming to see its value rise, with little to no visible sense of urgency within our governmental bodies. Our national debt is over 36 trillion dollars and climbing. This suggestion was made when the debt was hovering around 16 trillion - yet, change was slow, if any.

The US net worth is currently reported to be 276 trillion dollars. When we consider our debt totals and unfunded obligations, this net worth figure falls to an alarming 124 trillion dollars, revealing the cold hard truth about the national financial state.

Henceforth, I propose requiring Congress to install a debt clock inside both Senate and House chambers. Not only would this act as a constant, glaring reminder of our financial challenges, but it might also encourage a renewed sense of responsibility and urgency to manage the debt that we are collectively accruing.

Now is the time for action. We cannot afford to let our financial crisis grow unchecked. Demand Congress, via this petition, to install a debt clock inside both chambers as a priority. The acknowledgment of debt is the first step towards debt management. Sign this petition to let our leaders know - we want transparency, we want responsibility. We urge you to sign this petition now.
