Our collective voices are officially making waves off-campus and moving the needle internally. We have two major updates regarding our fight against the sudden 17-credit flat tuition cap.
The Media is Watching (NJ.com Article)
NJ.com just published an article addressing this exact issue. In the piece, NJIT spokesperson Deric Raymond stated:
"We have heard from students about the increase in tuition and the change to our credit cap, and we understand the concern behind it."
While the administration may acknowledge our frustration, mere acknowledgment is not enough. We don't want to just be "understood"—we want to be accommodated for. A sympathetic statement in the press doesn’t cover the sudden thousands of dollars in added tuition, nor does it fix the disrupted graduation timelines of students who planned their academic years based on previous policies. We need real action and policy adjustments.
Official Student Senate Survey
Because of the massive pushback from this petition and student outreach, the NJIT Student Senate has officially released a survey to gauge student sentiment on this policy.
This is our direct line to force the administration to see the data behind our frustration.
What you need to do right now:
- Fill out the Senate Survey. Be honest, be direct, and explicitly state how the lack of transparency and the financial burden of the 17-credit limit is impacting you.
- Keep Sharing. The more responses the Senate gets, the stronger their mandate is to fight this on our behalf at the upcoming Board of Trustees meetings.
They hear us. Now it's time to make them accommodate us.
