Demand Transparency on Barnet Council's Proposed Controlled Parking Zone

The Issue

As a resident of East Finchley, London, I am deeply concerned about the proposed controlled parking zone by Barnet Council. This proposal has been presented without full disclosure of essential details such as the consultation data, the costs associated with this project, motivations behind it and anticipated income. The lack of transparency is alarming and raises questions about accountability and the validity of the consultation and the parking scheme.

The cost implications are unaffordable for many residents and businesses already struggling with high living costs in London.

Furthermore, there is an urgent need to delay implementation until we have a clear understanding of these factors. A decision this significant should not be rushed or made without complete information available to those it will impact most - us, the residents.

In 2019/2020 alone, UK local authorities made a combined £454 million from parking charges and fines (source: RAC Foundation). We fear that this proposal may be more revenue-driven than in our best interests as community members.

We call upon Barnet Council to provide full transparency on their proposed controlled parking zone plan. We demand answers regarding consultancy involvement, cost breakdowns, motivations behind this move and expected income generated from it.
