Demand Transparency- Move Fontana City Council Meetings to Evenings

The Issue

Fontana residents deserve the ability to attend and participate in City Council meetings — without having to take time off work or miss critical obligations.

Currently, Council meetings are held at 2 PM on weekdays — a time that excludes many working residents, parents, students, and seniors who rely on others for transportation.

This limits public participation and undermines transparency. While city leadership has suggested that residents can “just email” or “stop them on the street,” this is NOT an acceptable substitute for the right to speak in a public meeting — on record — as protected by the Brown Act.

Fontana is a growing city. Our government should reflect that by adopting meeting times that allow broad public access — just as many other California cities do by holding Council meetings in the evening.

We call on Fontana city leadership to:

✅ Move regular City Council meetings to evening hours (after 5 PM)

✅ Ensure these meetings are accessible to ALL residents

✅ Agendize this issue for public discussion at an upcoming Council meeting

This is not about politics — it’s about public access, transparency, and trust in our city government.
