The Issue

Yesterday, I experienced an unjust expulsion from Blue Sky social media where I had amassed a community of over 4,400 followers. Without warning or explanation, my account was suspended, and I was accused of violating community guidelines. However, no specifics were provided about what I supposedly did wrong, leaving me in a distressing limbo with no recourse or clarity.

This issue is not unique to my situation; countless users across various social media platforms face similar silence and opacity when it comes to account suspensions. The phrase "You are suspended because you violated community guidelines" is thrown around without any accompanying evidence. It is an empty accusation that holds heavy consequences, often leading to permanent bans that strip people of their voices and their communities.

Social media platforms, as powerful entities that host pivotal online conversations, have a responsibility to treat their users with respect and transparency. We understand the need for community guidelines to maintain a safe online environment, but users deserve to know exactly what "violation" they are accused of. Without transparency and due process, these platforms risk mishandling countless situations, unfairly censoring individuals, and losing trust among their user base.

We call upon social media companies to establish clear and consistent protocols for notifying users about suspensions or bans, complete with detailed explanations and evidence that justifies such actions. Furthermore, there should be fair and accessible appeal processes, allowing individuals to contest any injustices or inaccuracies.

In an era where digital presence and freedom of expression are fundamental rights, users deserve clarity and accountability from these platforms. Let's stand together and urge social media companies to implement transparent and fair practices. Please sign this petition to demand that social media platforms end the abuse of baseless suspensions and respect our right to know who our accusers are and what we're accused of.   Signed by Cris Ericson WRITE-in candidate for Representative to U.S. Congress in the State of Vermont  http://VermontParty.com
