The Issue

Residents deserve transparency, accountability, and consistency from their local government. In our community, questions have arisen concerning the status of the City's Engineer and the ambiguity surrounding the classification of this crucial role. The City Engineer should be a pillar of integrity and reliability, yet inconsistencies in how this position is described and utilized have raised significant concerns among residents.

In some situations, the City Engineer is categorized as a city official or employee, functioning within the direct administrative framework of our local governance. However, in other scenarios, particularly when inquiries are made about the engineering services provided, the same role is depicted in entirely different terms, sometimes aligning with the broader engineering firm rather than the city itself. This inconsistency not only obscures accountability but also hampers our ability to ensure that services are delivered with the highest standards of professionalism.

The role of the City Engineer is vital to the planning, development, and maintenance of our city’s infrastructure. Their actions and decisions directly impact public safety, city development, and financial expenditure of taxpayer funds. It is crucial that the classification of this role is consistent and transparent to guarantee that residents can trust in the processes that affect their daily lives.

We call upon city leaders and relevant governance bodies to conduct a comprehensive and independent review of the City Engineer's classification. This review should seek to clarify the status of this role under varying circumstances and establish a consistent framework that delineates the City Engineer as an accountable and clearly defined entity within our local government.

By signing this petition, you are advocating for a more transparent, responsible, and consistent approach to local governance. Support our request to ensure clarity and accountability in the role of the City Engineer for the welfare of our community. Let's make sure that every official is held to the highest standard of accountability in their service to our city!

“I believe very strongly that the position of engineer, if the city is to have one, should be a salaried position in which a technologically capable individual represents the interests of a city to those engineering firms that work with the city. The interests of a city is to minimize costs while the interests of engineering firms is to make money while providing services. It is important that these roles be clearly separate.
