Demand transparency around Pennridge Middle School consolidation
The Issue
The Pennridge School Board is considering a proposal to consolidate our middle schools from three to two, targeting South Middle School for closure with the 2028-29 school year. Education is a public service, and decision-making around it must not happen behind closed doors.
The district has formed a consolidation planning committee with limited community representation and has denied public access to committee meetings. The Pennridge School Board must step in to develop a transparent and inclusive process for exploring potential consolidation, analyzing its long-term impacts, and evaluating alternative solutions.
We call on the Pennridge School Board to:
- Form a new exploratory consolidation committee with a transparent selection process and broad community representation
- Open all meetings to the public
- Share all relevant data, comprehensive financial projections, and alternative scenarios before any recommendations are made
