Demand Transparency and Revote on Chenoa School Land Purchase Referendum

The Issue

As residents and deeply committed members of the Chenoa, Illinois community, we share a collective concern over the proposed land purchase and potential closure of the beloved Chenoa Elementary School. For several decades, our school has served not just as a place of learning, but as a cornerstone of our small community. This is much more than a building – it is a part of our identity, history and beloved by generations who have walked its hallways.

Many of the older generation of Chenoa graduated from this cherished institution, and its potential closure threatens the fabric of our close-knit community. We have many families who moved to Chenoa for the assurance of a local elementary school, and without it, we fear losing valued residents and potential decline in revenue for our small businesses.

However, the issue here is not merely the potential change, but the lack of transparency in the decision-making process. The community is being asked to surrender a precious asset without full disclosure of the details concerning the new land purchase. We have a right to such disclosure and to take part in decisions that affect our lives and the life of our community.

We are therefore petitioning the school board to re-open the issue for a vote and to provide transparent, comprehensive disclosure of all records pertaining to the land purchase. We demand a more participatory, democratic process where our voices are heard and taken into account.

Help us stand up for our community - our history, our children's education, and our future. Sign the petition today!
