We, the concerned citizens and advocates for animal welfare, are calling for immediate action and oversight of The Animal Foundation due to ongoing failures in leadership, transparency, and operational efficiency.

Despite receiving millions of dollars in state funding and public donations, The Animal Foundation has created one of the most inefficient and frustrating adoption processes imaginable. Countless potential adopters, including myself, have experienced repeated delays, poor communication, and unnecessary barriers when trying to adopt. In my case, I returned four days in a row, only to be told each time, “Come back tomorrow.”

This is not an isolated experience. Dozens of others in line with me shared the same frustration—many of whom eventually gave up entirely. These failures are costing animals their lives.

The lack of transparency and operational efficiency at The Animal Foundation is not just a bureaucratic problem—it is the leading cause of unnecessary animal deaths. This cycle of mismanagement is directly responsible for animals dying in shelters, not due to a lack of public interest, but because of an internal system that fails them at every step. Every day that this continues, more lives are lost—not from a lack of love, but from a lack of leadership.

The problem is not a lack of volunteers. The problem is a lack of leadership, accountability, and willingness to embrace solutions. Offers to assist with technical solutions and process improvements have been ignored. Meanwhile, public funds are spent with no clear accountability or public insight into how those resources are being used.

We, the undersigned, demand the following from The Animal Foundation:

A complete overhaul of the current adoption process to prioritize efficiency, transparency, and accessibility.
A publicly released and detailed annual budget, including:

State and local funding received
Donation totals
Line-item expenditures

A full report of board member and executive salaries and compensation.
An independent audit and review of operational practices, with the findings made public.
A plan to implement modern technology solutions to assist in managing adoptions, appointments, and volunteer coordination.

The animals in your care deserve better. So do the people trying to help them.
