Demand Transparency and Justice for Police Dog Hero #FindHero
The Issue
Hello, my name is Kaye Nightingale. I was part of the team that helped create #FinnsLaw and #FinnsLawPart2 with ex-police officer Dave Wardell, on behalf of #FabulousFinn. Dave had his two police dogs (PD Pearl and PD Hero) removed from him, despite him being subsequently proven to have 'no case to answer'. This situation is deeply personal to me as I believe in justice for all beings, human or animal.
It is heart-breaking that PD Pearl was taken away from her loving home, subsequently developed cancer, was retired and passed away, all without Dave and his family (including his 3 young children) knowing what had happened to her, until it was too late. PD Pearl should have been able to be cared for during her retirement and illness by the family whom she loved and who loved her. That kindness was denied to her. I believe we need to right this wrong by finding out what has happened to PD Hero.
We are now calling on the Chief Constable of Hertfordshire Police to provide transparency about what has happened to PD Hero. We request that arrangements be made for her reunion with her former handler, Dave Wardell. The bond between a handler and their service dog is profound; it's not just about companionship but also about trust built over years of training and working together.
In 2018 alone, there were over 1,500 operational service dogs in the UK (source: UK Home Office). These animals play a vital role in our society by detecting drugs, explosives or missing persons. They deserve respect and fair treatment.
The lack of transparency surrounding PD Hero's situation raises serious concerns about how these loyal service animals are treated because they are not 'property' to be re-assigned, they are partners and family members. We need your help to ensure that PD Hero gets the justice she deserves so that she can spend her retirement back with the family she loves.
