This update is from one of the residents directly affected by rock falls from the blasting (2x a day) activity at the residential development on the slopes of Broom Hill:
“I don't know where to begin, but I think this captures the type of decisions being made. Despite there being continued risk of rockfall on from the cliff, on our property, they have gone ahead with blasting and this recommendation:
The residents of ***** Firwood Road should avoid access to the upper path/septic area during blasting, and visually inspect the cliff area above the path, near Location 3 on the attached Rockfall Location Plan, for loose rock prior to re-entry to the area after a blast. Note that this is a recommendation for safety, and compliance/non-compliance is at the discretion/risk of the residents.
The summary being that both the district and the developer/blaster are aware of previous rockfall, have been told by a geotechnical review that hazards remain, but its up to us to stay off that part of our property during daily blasting AND to make sure its safe before re-entering.
We're at continual risk, as anyone who visits, crosses or works on our property during and after blasting - in what world is this OK?!”
