Demand Transparency and Accountability at Tacoma's ICE Detention Center
The Issue
More than 3,500 complaints have been filed against the Northwest ICE Processing Center in Tacoma, Washington — reporting unsafe food, medical neglect, and unsanitary conditions. And for three years, the private company running the facility, the GEO Group, blocked state health inspectors from ever setting foot inside.
Washington's Department of Health attempted inspections ten times. Ten times, they were turned away. Meanwhile, people held inside continued to report serious harm. State law requires unannounced inspections of facilities like this one — but GEO Group simply refused to comply.
Governor Bob Ferguson and Attorney General Nick Brown sued GEO Group in April over the repeated obstruction. Last week, a federal judge sided with Washington and ordered the facility to allow inspections beginning July 23. That's a victory — but GEO Group now has time to appeal. We need to make clear that the public is watching and that no company is above the law.
You don't have to agree with someone's immigration status to believe they deserve clean water, medical care, and basic human dignity. Sign this petition to demand full compliance with the court's inspection order and real accountability at the Tacoma detention facility — before more people are harmed.
