The Issue

As a student at Cal Poly Humboldt, I've seen firsthand how the actions of our President, Tom Jackson, have affected my classmates and friends. His recent aggressive behavior towards student protesters shows a disregard for our campus community that we cannot ignore. We are not criminals; we are students seeking an education and exercising our right to peaceful protest.

The incident in question involved unnecessary police aggression that President Jackson subjected us to. This is not the leadership we expect or deserve at our institution of learning. It's time for change.

Cal Poly Humboldt is known for its commitment to sustainability, diversity, and social justice - values that seem incompatible with President Jackson's recent actions. Our graduation ceremony should be a celebration of these values and the achievements of students who embody them.

We urge all members of the Cal Poly Humboldt community in Arcata, CA - students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members - as well as those who care about higher education and student rights across the country - to join us in demanding that Tom Jackson remove himself from Cal Poly Humboldt’s graduation ceremony.

By signing this petition you will send a clear message: We value respect for all voices on campus and will not tolerate aggression towards peaceful protesters. Sign now to support this cause. Sign now to make it clear that Tom Jackson is not wanted— not at graduation, and not on our campus!!
