Demand the US Department of Defense to remove Windows 10 from their computer systems

The Issue

In late February of 2016, CNN Money reported that the United States Department of Defense just became the biggest client of Microsoft. The article reports that The Pentagon will now go through the process of "upgrading" its 4 million computers to the Windows 10 system. This is wrong on so many levels.

As you may or may not know, Windows 10 is a system that continues to engage in illegal spying of the user. The way Microsoft justifies this is in a vague End-User License Agreement (EULA). The official privacy statement of Microsoft says that they also sell this information to third-parties. I, the writer of this petition, have spoken against this multiple times, such as in this draft complaint sent to the FTC, and this open letter sent to Congressman Ron Wyden and the Surgeon General of the United States. The open letter is actually sent after this decision. I didn't know of the decision until recently.

Additional sources of the illegal spyware exist all over the net. This infamous image shows a large number of illegal spyware "features" that have both been designed to be hard to find, some designed to be turned off temporally, and some that can not be turned off at all except in the Enterprise edition. Even in the Enterprise edition, only some can be disabled.

One truly scary aspect of the Windows 10 system is that it is constantly sending unknown encrypted data to Microsoft. The encryption of some (not all) connections has been cracked since, and it was discovered that the system was constantly taking screenshots of the User's desktop and uploading them to Microsoft. This has been replicated by many different people.

A large number of credible news sites that are independently run are also reporting the illegal features. This includes ArsTechnica, Forbes, Network World, PCWorld (commenting on when it was in beta), and even The Wall Street Journal (please note that this gets the prevention features wrong, as the features it details are red herrings, if anything).

Even some people previously in the Windows Insider Program now realize that Windows 10 is both malware and spyware, bordering on illegal.

With this well-known spyware, the US Department of Defense have now put themselves, and the nation, at critical risk. Microsoft now has access to their computer systems through back-doors, as well as the desktop screenshots of the various Government officials. These are only the things it is proven to do. Who knows what else it may steal.

The desktop data that it would screenshot includes memos, emails, launch codes, personnel files, and various other national security risks. A company should not have this much power. Microsoft is just another Too-Big-To-Fail company, but with your signature you can get the nation safer by telling the pentagon, and the US DoD to repeal the decision to put Windows 10 on their computer systems.

Russia already knows this, and is already considering making them illegal for Government use and public institution. Why shouldn't we?

Thank you for your support.
