Demand the UC Riverside Career Center to uninvite CBP from the Virtual Job Fair

The Issue

It has been brought to our attention that on Wednesday, April 7th, the University of California, Riverside Career Center will be hosting Customs and Border Patrol (CBP), at a campus job fair, namely, the “Virtual Spring Job Fair: Career Night.”

UC Riverside cannot claim to prioritize the safety and concerns of its undocumented student population, as they have multiple times in the past, while allowing CBP to recruit students to be border patrol agents. Each and every UCR student is an invaluable contributor to the university and deserves to feel safe regardless of immigration status. We strongly believe that allowing federal agencies like CBP to recruit on our campus only perpetuates the climate of fear that the University of California claims to be against. The university’s actions in allowing this employer to recruit and have a platform within the Career Center, undermines the university’s commitment to a welcoming environment to all students and reduces it to a violent act of performative allyship.

We urge our community to stand in solidarity with undocumented students by signing this petition. We call upon the University of California, Riverside, to affirm their commitment to supporting the wellbeing of undocumented students. We demand that this employer is uninvited from this career fair, and that this utterly disappointing mistake does not repeat in history again.
