Demand the U.S. to Withdraw from Hawaii and Make Restitution for Damages
The Issue
I was born shortly after the so-called State of Hawaii was voted into existence in 1959, by Kanaka Maoli and those residing in the Territory of Hawaii. As a person of Kanaka Maoli ethnicity, I was never afforded the opportunity to live as a kanaka maoli in my own country because of the indoctrination of being forced into being an American Citizen.
This petition is not just about me, but about every Kanaka Maoli and every Hawaiian who share this sentiment and history. The United States' illegal annexation of Hawaii in 1898 has left lasting damages on our people and our lands that need to be addressed. Our culture has been diluted, our lands exploited for tourism and military purposes, causing irreversible environmental damage.
According to a report by Trask (1991), native Hawaiians have suffered from higher rates of unemployment, lower income levels, poor health outcomes compared to other ethnic groups since annexation. Moreover, according to a study by Kanahele (1986), many sacred sites have been desecrated due to land development projects.
Most recent in 2023 of August, the fire that destroyed Lahaina was the end and A NEW beginning for our country, culture and civilization to once again, take its rightful position in the World by bringing back the country called Hawaii, under Ko Hawaii Pae Aina using King Kamehameha III's words to us , " be truthful, do no harm and honor your oath."
We demand that the United States acknowledge its role in these injustices and take steps towards restitution - including withdrawing their presence from Hawaiian lands and providing compensation for damages caused over more than a century of desecration and loss of identity.
It's time we reclaim what rightfully belongs to us - our land, our culture, our dignity as Kanaka Maoli people. We urge you all who read this petition - stand with us in demanding justice for Kanaka Maoli and Hawaiians. Please sign this petition today!
