Demand the Town of Penfield to Reject the Willow Pond Development
The Issue
WE, THE UNDERSIGNED HEREBY PETITION the Penfield Town Board to Reject the proposal for building any apartments in the Willow Pond Way PUD.
Willow Pond Ventures LLC. has proposed building 84 apartments and 168 parking spots at 47 Willow Pond Way in Penfield, NY. (just West of existing medical parking lots) If these apartments are built, the traffic through our neighborhood will increase, making it more dangerous for children and pedestrians. Only one entrance and exit will worsen any emergency for both victims and emergency medical services. Many residents spoke at Penfield's Planning boards July 11 meeting regarding very unsafe conditions because there is currently too much traffic. These concerns must be satisfied. This development is simply too large for our area. The increase in population density would put a strain on our already overburdened infrastructure and public services, and increase air and noise pollution. The construction of this project would destroy the current forest, meadows and marshland and leave animals without habitat.
The developer has submitted a proposal for a zoning modification in Willow Ponds Way. We ask that no zoning changes be approved until results from the fall 2024 independent traffic study are reviewed and residents again have an opportunity to submit feedback. Residents’ safety must be addressed. We ask the town to strongly consider all options, including establishing a recognized nature preserve or a forever wild area.
