Demand the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) make RM 1431 Safer
The Issue
RM 1431 between Lago Vista, TX and Shaw Drive Marble Falls, TX is as dangerous as RM 2222 in Austin was in the 80's and 90's. There was a recent injury and death in Lago Vista and a vehicle rollover that I personally witnessed. Each time I have to drive it, up to 6 vehicles cross the double-yellow line and come into my lane nearly causing a head-on collision. The curvy road and steep grades are dangerous and life-threatening. The road is engineered for the current speeds people are traveling at on it. The steep grade before The Federal Wildlife Preserve does not have a sign indicating the hazard. The turn-out lanes are rarely used by slower traffic. There are no raised-lane markers in the middle of the road. Having them would help distracted drivers realize they are not in there lanes. I nearly had two head-on collisions today when a crew-cab dually crossed 3/4 of the way into my lane and a crew-cab truck came 1/3 of the way into my lane. Each was within a mile of each other. Demand TXDOT resurface the road. Provide education regarding use of a turn-out lane. Have them install raised lane markers between Lago Vista and Shaw. Widen the area at the bottom of the hill before The Wildlife Preserve to keep speeding vehicles in their lane. Straighten the curves and reduce the inclines and declines. Lower the speed limit between The Preserve and Lago Vista to 50mph until they come up with a solution for drivers crossing into oncoming traffic, which occurs the most on the curves closest to Lago Vista.
