Mark Rogers, a mental health counselor for Escambia School District, assaulted a student during a testing day. The student was seeking information from her guidance counselor when Rogers assaulted her. For the past two years there have been numerous pleas for help and justice from both the student and her mother. In response PHS, the school district, and the Pensacola Police Department have taken no substantial action. This issue is compounded by the fact that almost 3 million students in the U.S are victims of school personnel violence each year, a number which includes mental, physical, or sexual abuse (according to data from the U.S. Department of Education). It's crucial that we, as a community, insist on a swift, appropriate response to such allegations to safeguard students' physical and mental well-being.
