A dear mother, friend and neighbor, Benita Mcconico became a victim of a cruel assault whilst simply engaging in a peaceful afternoon activity - watering her grass in her own neighborhood, Tampa, Fl. An unassuming exchange with a neighbor, Terence K. Wolfe at [Redacted] turned into a nightmare as he brutally attacked her with a steel metal pole over a short conversation, enlightening him about his dog defecating on her lawn.

Despite the gravity of this incident, the state has denied to pick up the charges against Terence K. Wolfe for this attack. This shocking dismissal is a blatant indication of the urgent need to reform our systems that fail to protect our communities from such heinous acts of violence. Each year, approximately 5 million individuals are a victim to assault in the U.S with attacks from acquaintances accounting for a large portion (Bureau of Justice Statistics, Crime Data Brief, February 2003, U.S. Department of Justice).

By ignoring such serious offenses, we are perpetuating a culture of impunity which continues to endanger innocent lives like Benita Mcconico. It's imperative that the State recognizes the severity of assault with a deadly weapon and carries out appropriate actions to secure justice for Benita.
