Demand the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors Withdraw the La Quinta Purchase Now!

The Issue

Our Millbrae City Council Members are working hard on our behalf.

On August 27 2024, our Millbrae City Council sent a letter to the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, officially requesting the San Mateo County to terminate the unconstitutional attempt to develop permanent supportive housing in Millbrae without a vote of the people. The State of California has exhausted all HomeKey funding, and denied HomeKey funding requests from the County of San Mateo regarding the La Quinta development. It is time for the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors to formally agendize a public hearing to rescind the offer to purchase La Quinta Inn & Suite.

This is our moment to rally behind our City Councilmembers to ensure San Mateo County is abiding by the California Constitution and the will of the people. Ensure that there is a timely, open, and transparent public hearing and take immediate action to bring the La Quinta issue to a lawful and proper conclusion.

Despite all the efforts from the City of Millbrae to find more suitable alternative solutions for permanent supportive housing, the County Executive Michael Callagy refuses to work with our City Council, and continues to push a plan that will clearly damage our local economy by eliminating small business, eliminating jobs, and stripping Millbrae of our much-needed revenue. Now, even with Project Homekey funding is completely exhausted, and the County Executive Michael Callagy has received our official request to terminate the purchase of La Quinta, Callagy continues to ignore the will of the People of Millbrae and refused to agendize the discussion of rescinding the La Quinta purchase in front of the Board of Supervisors!

This raises serious concerns:

  • What is Mike Callagy hiding?
  • Why did Mike Callagy refuse to agendize the discussion of the La Quinta purchase?
  • Why does Mike Callagy insist on purchasing La Quinta when HomeKey funding is not available.
  • Why did Mike Callagy hold the La Quinta Inn & Suite business, its employees hostage and refuse to allow the business to succeed, and the employees to continue to work in peace?
  • Does Mike Callagy have a secret funding source that he refused to disclose to the Board of Supervisors and to the Public?
  • Why  are they moving forward with a project that is clearly against the best interests of Millbrae?
  • Did Mike Callagy the ring leader in Dirty Politics, and Old Boys backroom dealing, just as our Sheriff Christina Corpus had said he was?

We must demand immediate transparency, accountability and a properly agendized public hearing to rescind the purchase offer of the La Quinta Inn & Suite! If County Executive Mike Callagy refuses to agendize the hearing, we must hold Callagy and the Board of Supervisors accountable. Our community deserves answers and a fair, open and transparent process that considers the well-being of everyone in Millbrae.

Here's how you can help right now:

  • Share this petition with your friends, family, and neighbors. Every signature adds power to our message!
  • Encourage others to act quickly – the time to make our voices heard is now.
  • Spread the word on social media – we need the entire community behind us to make a lasting impact.

We are urging the San Mateo Board of Supervisors to hold a public hearing for an action to withdraw from the purchase agreement in their next available meeting. They need to hear the united voice of Millbrae and demand transparency and accountability.

Millbrae deserves better. Together, we can make sure the Board of Supervisors listens to the people who live and work here. Let’s make sure they know we will not back down!

Thank you for your support, and let’s keep fighting for our community!
