Petition to Demand the Immediate Return of Peanut the Squirrel and Fred the Raccoon's Bodies from the NYDEC
Seeking Justice for the Tragic Loss and Abuse at P'nuts Freedom Farm Animal Rescue

We, the undersigned, stand united in our demand for justice for Peanut the Squirrel and Fred the Raccoon, two beloved animals who tragically lost their lives under circumstances of mistreatment and neglect by the New York Department of Environmental Conservation (NYDEC). Peanut and Fred were living safely and lovingly at P’nuts Freedom Farm Animal Rescue, where they were cherished members of the rescue community. The NYDEC’s actions led to the untimely and unjust deaths of these innocent animals, and they are now withholding their bodies, denying the rescue and their supporters the opportunity to honor them properly and seek closure.

The circumstances surrounding their deaths raise serious questions about the ethics and practices of the NYDEC, and the mistreatment of the animals in their care cannot be ignored. These animals were in the care of P'nuts Freedom Farm, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing sanctuary and a safe space for wildlife. Instead of protecting and supporting the welfare of these animals, the NYDEC’s interference and failure to act in the best interest of the animals led to their unnecessary and tragic deaths.

We demand the immediate and respectful return of Peanut and Fred's bodies to P’nuts Freedom Farm Animal Rescue. The sanctuary deserves the right to lay them to rest with the dignity and love they provided during their lives.

This petition is not just a plea for these two animals, but a call for accountability and transparency in how the NYDEC handles wildlife. We cannot let these deaths go unanswered.
