Our division reflects a shared connection to former Philippine President Duterte, widely considered one of the most skillful leaders to have governed our country. His forced departure spearheaded by President Marcos has caused significant distress within our community. Duterte was obliged to leave for the Netherlands to face a trial presided over by the International Criminal Court (ICC) — an event we regard unjust and dismissive of his right to due process.

Notwithstanding his medical condition, Duterte complied and has been living in a foreign country, cut off from the people and land he has served. It'ssignificant to note that under Duterte's leadership, the crime rate in the Philippines decreased significantly, with an average reduction of about 30% in 2017 alone as reported by the Philippine National Police (PNP).

We believe in the potential of justice, and we assert that it should start by acknowledging Duterte's valuable contributions to our country and his right to return without further political manipulation. We contest the current circumstances and press towards rectifying this injustice.
