The Issue

Every animal deserves a life free from cruelty and neglect. Unfortunately, SPCA Tampa Bay—under the leadership of CEO Martha Boden—has repeatedly failed to uphold that standard. Under Martha Boden's administration, SPCA Tampa Bay has been embroiled in several scandals that stand contrary to its mission.

Key concerns under Martha Boden’s leadership:

  • Troubling connections to puppy mill pet stores that prioritize profit over animal welfare (photo below)
  • Excessively high euthanasia rates
  • Recent citation from Pinellas County Animal Services for animal cruelty involving a pig named Waddles
  • Viral TikTok video of Waddles' burned skin received over 2.5 million views, sparking public outrage

Thankfully, Waddles is safe and healing thanks to Kelly Dill, who runs the pig rescue Pork Butt Pastures. Thanks to Connie Pavelich for posting his story on social media.

Ongoing controversies suggest a pattern of poor leadership, not isolated incidents.
We, the Tampa Bay community, urge the SPCA Board of Directors to ask for the resignation of CEO Martha Boden. A leadership change is necessary to restore trust and return the organization to its mission of compassion and ethical animal care.

Please join us by signing this petition and standing up for the animals who cannot speak for themselves.
