EXPOSED - Jas Athwal, the former leader of the Council has been exposed in a BBC investigation to be a rogue landlord.  He is currently the serving MP for Ilford South and as Council leader, he introduced Landlord Licensing rules which the investigation showed he failed to follow.  This Member of Parliament expected everyone, apart from himself, to follow his rules!

PROPERTIES
He owns a number of badly neglected properties with his tenants having to live in ant infested flats covered in black mold.  He also failed to properly obtain the landlord licenses which he himself passed into law.  His vulnerable tenants would normally be able to complain to their MP but how can anyone expect them to report this to Jas Athwal himself.  He has brought his position into disrepute and his position as Member of Parliament is completely untenable.  HE NEEDS TO GO, if he has any contrition or regret for his unscrupulous actions.

It’s urgent for the whole community in Ilford South and Redbridge to stand up to Athwal and his clear indifference to being a law-abiding person. Everyone has the right to live in descent homes. In 2020, The Guardian newspaper reported that London has the highest rate of rogue landlords in England and Wales, we know Jas Athwal MP is one such landlord. We DEMAND his immediate resignation and we ASK YOU all to join hands in this fight against corruption and nepotism.  Clearly, there is something badly wrong when Athwal is allowed to break all the rules whilst his political party bosses turn a blind eye! – Sign our petition and help spread the word!

The BBC have shown that that Mr Athwal's properties are kept in a terrible state of disrepair and are unsafe for human habitation.

Tenants have to live with black mold on bathroom ceilings. Bathrooms need proper working ventilation, it's obvious that this was not provided here.

Broken lights and dangerous exposed wiring and broken fire alarms dangling from an exposed mains electricity cable. The property could not have passed the electrical safety checks which are required for landlords to complete yearly with such problems. This would be against the law.

Jas Athwal MP has 15 rental flats, all of which are not properly licensed. Its time we stand up to rogue landlords like him!
