This petition stems from the distress experienced by many residing in Spartanburg and that Sheriff Chuck Wright has grossly deviated from the moral compass he should abide by. As someone who lives in our community, we can no longer turn a blind eye to his inexcusable conduct.

Wright, who has served as Spartanburg’s sheriff for 20 years, has been involved in a series of unscrupulous activities. Reports of underhanded tactics, deceits, and the alleged distribution of drugs back into our streets are a repeated complaint against him. This goes against the whole principle of his position to protect and serve our community.

Moreover, his misuse of power extends to his family. Evidences have surfaced supporting claims that his son has managed to evade punishment for certain illegal activities, showcasing a grim picture of nepotism and corruption. This is a blatant misuse of his authority and a harsh mockery of our judicial system.

Adding fuel to the fire is Wright’s absurd practice of treating possession of cash as an offense. A law-abiding resident should not be treated as a wrongdoer for simply having cash on hand.

It is a bitter truth that Spartanburg currently has a sheriff who has seemingly completely forgotten his pledge to serve and protect us, leaning towards protecting the illicit activities instead. We need an upstanding, incorruptible sheriff who has our best interests at heart.

The behavior of Sheriff Chuck Wright is a disappointment to the trust placed in him by the community and negates the principles on which our society rests. For the welfare of our community, we unequivocally demand his resignation.
