As a concerned taxpayer and citizen of the city of Brevard, I feel compelled to speak out about a profound issue that needs urgent attention. Our children's safety is not a matter to be taken lightly, yet our pleas for a safer environment have been blatantly ignored by our local law enforcement, namely Police Captain Dan Godman and Chief Tom Jordan

 Dan Godman Last year, after multiple attempts to have the Brevard Police Department change the times they have crossing guards at intersections, to ensure the safety of our children, I was met with outright apathy and aggression from Captain Godman. Rather than addressing our concerns with the professionalism and care his role demands, he yelled and said, "It is NOT the city's responsibility to protect the children in the city of Brevard." These words still resound, starkly encompassing the negligence afflicting our local law enforcement department under Godman’s leadership.

The responsibility to protect our children and ensure their safe journeys to and from school does not solely fall on parents and guardians. It is a communal obligation which the city and, in particular, the police department should be a vital part of. Negligence in such crucial circumstances is unacceptable and poses a clear and present danger to our young ones.

For the safety and the future of our city, we call for immediate action. We demand the resignation or termination of Police Captain Dan Godman, to allow for someone with a proper understanding of their duty to protect all citizens, regardless of their age, to step in. Stand with us to demand accountability and promote a safe environment for our children. Please sign this petition.

Dan Godman also has had his instructors revoked for the BLET (Police academy) program by the State of North Carolina. After a thorough investigation they revoked his license citing multiple reasons. This does not show the values/characteristics of a captain on a police force.

Dan Godman has also been at the center of sexual misconduct accusations from female officers and inappropriate conduct. He is a huge part of the reason there is so much turmoil at the Brevard Police Department.

Tom Jordan the current chief of Police is also at the center of the turmoil and investigations. Back in 2021 Chief Jordan overstepped and abused is power in a viral YouTube video I posted. Where the chief showed no professionalism and tried to violate a citizen's civil rights. Since than the police department is in compete shambles. A lot of BPD officers have resigned stating bad leadership and they are unable to keep new recruits. Chief Jordan has also been accused of misconduct and bad morale within the department. The city of Brevard has hired an independent third-party agency to look into how they can improve the BPD. These issues have made local news and been addressed at city council meetings by citizens and the PBA. The chief has made promises to citizens and lied and unable to keep his promises. When asked about his promises to have BPD personnel at intersections to protect the children at certain times his response was "Let me know when my employees are late to work".  Tom Jordan cannot even manage his small 25 sworn officer department. Besides all the complaints from BPD staff and bringing the BPD down, Jordan also pulled city BPD officers out of the county drug task force. Leaving more drugs on the street in the city of Brevard for our children to gain access to. There have been complaints of the chief ignoring BPD officer's complaints. The evidence room being mismanaged. The city of Brevard Police department has been ruined by Tom Jordan.

If an officer or their family speaks out against Jordan then he and the city retaliate against the officer and their family.

If BPD officers were not afraid of retaliation, then probably 98% of the BPD officers and staff would sign this petition also. I have spoken with BPD staff that has expressed their concerns.  

In order to have a safe community for our children and citizens and to have true non corrupt leaders in the Brevard Police Department we are asking for immediate change and either Jordan and Godman to resign or the city fire them.
